One Tam Member Hike – Protecting a Threatened Frog at Carson Falls

Published Sunday February 12

Little Carson Falls is one of the most popular destinations in the county, particularly when it is roaring at full flow. Later in the spring, when the current subsides, the foothill yellow-legged frog (a species that is listed as threatened) breeds in the stream and the pools along the course of the falls.

Not fortunately when visitors and their pets take a dip in these waters this action can be devastating to the developing eggs and tadpoles. Since 2005, the Marin Municipal Water District has enlisted the help of frog-watch volunteers to educate the public about the frogs and remind them to stay out of the water.
