Marin IJ Editorial: Keep traffic moving on the Bon Air Bridge

Published Sunday March 12

Replacement of a 388-foot bridge over Corte Madera Creek wouldn’t seem to pose a tremendous challenge in this day and age.

Sadly, such is not the case.

Reconstruction of the Bon Air Bridge in Larkspur, already in the planning stages for eleven years, could be delayed even longer as city officials grapple with bids far over budget and the not savory prospect of having to close the span completely during construction in order to save money.

The bridge has been patched up and seismically strengthened over the years, but tidal flows continue to take their toll. Caltrans engineers have determined that the best solution to continued structural degradation is complete replacement.
